Transponders

These systems were believed to be clone proof, until recently. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. But the technology behind these chips has since been upgraded and they are now no longer completely clone-proof. This has led to many locksmiths in the auto industry to upgrade their skills by learning to read, program and write these newer types.

Immobilisers

The Renaults are a bit complex in the way they operate when it comes to their immobilisers and keys. There are two main systems in operation that affect how a replacement keys will be programmed into the car. The older system utilizes a “kill switch” to disable a vital component of the car’s start-up mechanism if the correct key is not present.
