The chip responds by sending a unique identifier to the car. The unique code can then be used to unlock doors and begin the car.

Up until recently the systems were thought to be secure against clones. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. The technology behind these chips was upgraded, and they no longer have replicable. This has led many locksmiths to upgrade their skills by learning to read, program and write these latest kinds.
Immobilisers
Renaults are quite complicated in the way that they function when it comes to keys and immobilisers. There are two major systems in operation that affect the method by which a replacement key will be programmed to the car. The older system uses the “kill switch” that connects to one of the important car starting parts in order to turn it off if the right key is not present. These are delicate devices that require a technician to diagnose and fix them if they fail.
The newer system is simpler to use. It employs rolling security codes and advanced cryptography to defeat copying of the code from the key or ECU. This is the code that will be used to replace keys we supply.
Certain models feature an antenna ring that is specific to the vehicle and cannot be detected by transponder scanners that are standard. This is very effective at preventing hotwiring and is also extremely difficult to disable using a standard key or a transponder emulator. We have a specialist product dubbed the Renault Antenna Emulator (RAE) that can be used to disable this kind of immobiliser on Renault Clio phase 2 models and some Renault commercial vehicles that are equipped with ID46 transponders. It works by mimicking operation of a transponder that is valid in the ring antenna. It is able to be used to replace failed keys that are lost or stolen without dismantling the ECU. It has been tested and approved by Thatcham to give assurance to motor insurance customers.
